The Ultimate Transformation: Restoring and Protecting a Dull Range Rover SVR - A Returning Client and a New Challenge

Building long term relationships is the foundation of everything we do. For the last three days, we’ve had the absolute pleasure of welcoming back a long term, loyal client. In fact, this is the fourth or fifth vehicle we’ve transformed for him. He is a massive Range Rover fan, and his latest acquisition is an absolute beast, a Range Rover SVR.

When it arrived at our studio, it was clear the vehicle needed some serious professional intervention. While the SVR boasts incredible performance, the paintwork itself was extremely dull, plagued by deep swirls and scratches that completely masked its true gloss.

Our mission was simple: Execute our premium 5 Year Ceramic Coating and Multi Surface Protection package to elevate this vehicle to a better than new standard.

Here is exactly how we achieved it over a rigorous three day timeline.

Stage 1: Deep Decontamination & Engine Bay Detail

Before any machine touches the paint, a vehicle must be surgically clean. We kicked off Day 1 by focusing on the areas that standard car washes completely overlook.

Wheels Off Wheel Arch Deep Clean

We don't clean wheels while they are still on the car. To ensure absolute precision, we removed all four wheels to grant us uncompromised access to the deeper recesses of the vehicle:

• The Wheel Arches: Thoroughly pressure washed and scrubbed to remove caked on road grime and salt.

• The Brake Calipers: Deep cleaned using dedicated fallout removers to strip away stubborn, baked on metallic brake dust.

• The Inner Barrels: Cleaned back and front to guarantee the wheels were spotless inside and out.

  
  

Factory Fresh Engine Bay Detailing

Next, we turned our attention under the hood. The engine bay received a meticulous detail to remove dust and oil residue. Once perfectly cleaned, we dressed all plastic components with a premium hydrophobic dressing. This not only leaves a natural, factory-fresh satin finish but actively repels water and dirt moving forward.

The 3 Stage Paintwork Decontamination

To prep the paintwork for correction, the exterior underwent a rigorous multi-stage washing process:

1. 3 Stage Wash: A gentle, deep cleansing foam and contact wash to safely lift loose surface dirt.

2. Chemical Decontamination: An intensive chemical bath specifically targeted to dissolve embedded iron fallout and stubborn tar spots.

3. Clay Bar Treatment: The final mechanical decontamination step. Passing a professional clay bar over the panels pulled out any remaining microscopic, embedded contaminants that the chemicals couldn't reach.

   
   

By the end of this process, the paintwork was completely bare, smooth as glass, and ready for the polishing bay.

Stage 2: The Multi Stage Machine Polishing Correction

Days 2 and 3 were entirely dedicated to the art of machine polishing. Because the SVR's paintwork was exceptionally dull and heavily swirled, a single stage polish simply wouldn't cut it. We performed a multi stage paint correction to completely transform the finish.

Step 1: The Heavy Cut

We began with a heavy cutting compound paired with an aggressive pad. This step focuses entirely on safely remove deeper defects, heavy swirling, and severe scratches.

Step 2: The Jewel Refining Polish

With the defects gone, we went over the entire vehicle a second time using a fine refining compound and a finishing pad. This crucial step cleans up any compounding haze, sharpens the paint's clarity, and pulls out a deep, mirror like gloss. It takes a massive investment of time, but as you can see from our project photos, the depth of clarity is unmatched.

Stage 3: Interior Deep Clean & Material Preservation

While the exterior was being perfected, the interior received an equally intense level of care.

Using a combination of compressed air, steam cleaning, and wet vac systems, we systematically detailed every single corner of the cabin. We cleaned deep into the seat rails, between the component panel gaps, and underneath the seating structures to eliminate every speck of dust.

To lock in this cleanliness, we applied specialized interior protectants:

• Gtechniq Smart Fabric: Applied directly to the carpets and fabric components to create an invisible, liquid repelling barrier against accidental spills.

• Gtechniq Leather Guard: Applied to the premium leather seats to protect against abrasion, UV fading, and dye transfer from clothing.

Stage 4: Locking it in with Dual Layer Ceramic Coatings

At the end of Day 1, we had already prepared the wheels and glass. The wheels were coated with a dedicated 2 year ceramic coating, and the exterior glass was machine polished and sealed with a 2 year hydrophobic glass ceramic coating for ultimate wet weather visibility.

To finish the paintwork on Day 3, we prepared the surfaces using CarPro Eraser. This panel wipe dissolves any remaining polishing oils or residues, ensuring the paint is surgically clean so the ceramic coatings can form a permanent bond.

5 Years of Elite Protection

For this vehicle, we upgraded the paintwork protection to a dual-layer system featuring CarPro professional ceramic coatings:

• Base Layer (CarPro D.Quartz Professional): This ceramic coating actively increases the structural hardness of the clear coat, making the paintwork incredibly resilient against future wash marring and micro scratching.

• Top Layer (CarPro C.Quartz Professional): Layered directly over the D.Quartz base, this adds immense slickness, intense hydrophobic water beading, and a rich, glass-like gloss.

  
  

This dual layer system guarantees 5 years of robust protection against the elements, road salt, bird etchings, and UV damage. Moving forward, the client won't have to struggle to clean it the self cleaning properties mean dirt will simply rinse away, maintaining that "just detailed" look for years to come.
