The Three-Day Ceramic Coating Journey of a 2015 Mercedes SL

​We recently welcomed a stunning 2015 Mercedes SL into our Bromborough Car Detailing Studio on The Wirral for a full transformation. The job included a paint correction to eliminate scratches and swirl marks, followed by the application of a professional grade 3 year ceramic coating across multiple surfaces. The journey is divided into three critical stages to ensure perfection and durability - Our Services

Day 1: Meticulous Deep Cleaning and Decontamination


​The secret to a long-lasting ceramic coating starts before the polishers touch the surface. We must achieve a surgically clean surface to allow the coating to form a proper physical bond.

Wheels Off Deep Cleaning

Wheels Off: Deep Cleaning the Foundation

  • ​Wheel and Arch Decontamination: Our first step is always to get the wheels off the car. This allows for a thorough deep clean and decontamination of the wheels, arches, and brake calipers.

  • ​Two-Year Ceramic Coating for Wheels: Once cleaned, these areas are immediately protected with a dedicated 2 year ceramic coating. This ensures every part of the car, including high heat areas are protected.

​Exterior Wash and Preparation

  • ​Engine Bay Spruce Up: We tackle the engine bay first to remove leaves, moss, and debris. After a thorough clean, we dress and detail the engine bay to make it look nice and fresh.

  • ​Three-Stage Exterior Wash: The body goes through a rigorous pre wash, snow foam, and contact wash.

  • ​Chemical Decontamination and Clay Bar: This is followed by chemical decontamination to remove tar spots and industrial fallout, and finally, a clay bar treatment. This removes any remaining bonded contaminants, ensuring the paint is truly stripped bare and ready for its paint correction.

  • ​Rubber Seal Attention: We meticulously clean all the rubber seals around the roof and windows. This is crucial for a convertible like the SL Class to ensure it looks perfect whether the roof is up, down, or in transition.


​Day 2: Precision Paint Correction and Gloss Enhancement


​Day two is dedicated to restoring the clarity and gloss of the paintwork, removing the imperfections that dull the finish.


​Removing Swirls and Enhancing Gloss

  • ​Single Stage Machine Polish: We perform a single stage machine polish. This step removes light scratches and swirls while significantly enhancing the overall gloss levels of the Mercedes SL's paintwork.

  • ​Multi-Machine Approach: We use a range of machines 5-inch, 3 inch, and 1 inch machine polishers to ensure absolute perfection in every corner, edge work, and curve.

​Pre-Coating Panel Wipe

  • ​Surgically Clean: After polishing, the entire vehicle is panel wiped. This removes all polishing oils and residues to leave a surgically clean surface. This is a non negotiable step to guarantee the ceramic coating can form its strongest possible physical bond for maximum durability and longevity over the next three years.


​Day 3: Multi-Surface Protection and Finishing Touches


​The final day brings the ultimate protection and interior care, completing the transformation - Ceramic Coating


​Interior Deep Clean and Protection

  • ​Deep Interior Sanitisation: The interior receives a deep clean, including the use of steam cleaners and compressed air to get into every gap and crevice.

  • ​Specialised Protection: We deep clean the leathers, carpets, and mats. We then apply Gtechniq Smart Fabric to the fabric upholstery and Gtechniq Leather Guard to the leather seats for lasting protection against spills and wear.

​The Ceramic Coating Application

  • ​Dedicated Glass Coating: We machine polish the glass to remove contaminants using an acidic polish. We then apply Gtechniq Smart Glass, a dedicated 2 year, 20,000-mile glass ceramic coating.

  • ​Final Inspection: The entire vehicle is inspected, and the final three-year ceramic coating is now cured and ready. This final step finishes the car detail on The Wirral service superbly.
