When a returning client travels all the way from Winsford to have their vehicle detailed, you know they aren’t just looking for a quick wash. They are looking for a transformation. This week, we spent three days performing a our signature car detailing service on a stunning BMW X3 M40i.
At around three years old, this BMW had begun to show its age through swirl marks and surface contamination. Our mission? A full interior and exterior "multi surface protection" package, including our professional grade ceramic coatings.
Day 1: The Deep Clean & Decontamination
Precision begins where the eye can’t see. We started by taking the wheels off the BMW for a wheels-off detail - standard process here at EKJ

Wheels and Arches
We didn't just clean the faces, we removed all four wheels to deep clean the barrels, the wheel arches, the brake calipers, and even the suspension components. After a thorough decontamination, we applied a dedicated 2 year ceramic coating to the wheels and brake calipers. This ensures they stay glossy, protected and more importantly become incredibly easy for the owner to maintain against brake dust.
The Exterior Prep
The paintwork underwent a rigorous three stage wash:
Chemical Decontamination: Removing iron fallout and stubborn tar spots.
Mechanical Clay Bar: This "exfoliates" the paint, pulling out embedded grit to leave the surface smooth as glass.
The Engine Bay: We performed a full engine bay detail to ensure the "heart" of the M40i looked as good as the body.

To wrap up Day 1, we machine polished all glass surfaces before applying a 2 year dedicated glass ceramic coating for ultimate rain repellency.
Day 2: Enhancing the Brooklyn Grey
The second day was dedicated to the paintwork. Restoring the depth and clarity of that iconic Brooklyn Grey paint.
Single Stage Machine Polish - Paint Correction
Even well kept cars accumulate light scratches and swirls over three years. We performed a single stage machine polish across the entire vehicle. This process:
Enhances the "pop" and gloss of the grey paint.
Removes light surface defects and swirls.
Prepares the "pores" of the paint for the coating.

Day 3: Interior Precision & The Final Bond
The final day is where we bring the "new car feeling" and that all important improved driving experience.
Interior Deep Clean
We utilized a combination of air guns, steamers, and wet vacs to ensure every crevice from the dash to the floor mats was surgically clean.
Smart Surface Protection
Once clean, we applied a suite of Gtechniq protection products:
Gtechniq Leather Guard: Applied to the seats, door cards, and dash to prevent staining and dye transfer.
Smart Fabric: Applied to all fabric surfaces to create a hydrophobic barrier against spills.

The Finishing Touch
Before the final handover, we performed a panel wipe using CarPro Eraser. This removes any lingering oils or polishing residues, ensuring the ceramic coating has formed a permanent physical bond with the vehicle's surface.
The Shield: CarPro C.Quartz Professional

Once the finish was flawless, we applied CarPro C.Quartz Professional. This isn't your off the shelf wax. It’s a professional grade ceramic coating that provides a hard, protective layer against the elements.

The Result: Better Than Showroom Quality
After three days of intensive work, this BMW X3 M40i is no longer just a daily driver. It’s a protected investment. The Brooklyn Grey is deeper, the wheels are shielded, and the interior is prepped for years of use.
"There is a massive difference between 'cleaning' a car and 'prepping' a car. By removing the contaminants and machine polishing the surface, we ensure the ceramic coating actually does its job."
